BIOGRAPHY:
Belgian painter, drawer, caricaturist, illustrator.
Studies at l’Académie de Bruges with Fl. Van Acker as teacher in 1912-1913.
He settled down in Brussels after the first world war.
Stayed in Heist-aan-Zee between 1938 and 1943 and then in Uccle.
At first, he painted floral compositions, portraits, nudes, landscapes; clear paintings dominated by white.
1930 was a pivotal year in his work: inspired by the lives of the fishermen, he painted them in their family environment. His works, often on panel, are of a dark color with monumental characters reminiscent of Permeke.
Also author of wall decorations (The hall of Bruges station between others).
Illustrator of books and famous caricaturist.
Works in the Musée d’Anvers, and the Groeninge museum in Bruges.
